The first ever DW show aired on November 18th 2009. It was a Skirmish show, back then those were on Wednesdays, and got us just shy of 3000 attendance. It may not sound much but as first shows go this one did pretty well.... well it did the job anyway. I created DW with the idea that it will be a place for players to come and learn RP and develop their wrestlers so at first I wasn't looking to closely to the factors that would make us stand out in a crowd.
Originally we had three singles championships and one tag team championship - the last one was aimed at the midcard. Since I was looking to have a fed that ran most of it's matches unedited and I wanted our first title holders to earn their gold, tournaments were started for each title.
The first tournament to finish and therefore crown a champion was the Lightweight Championship Tournament. The winner - Samael (no longer competing on TWG) - became the first ever DW title holder. His run however didn't last as he lost the title to The Dark Dragon the following week on the same night as the rest of DW's original Champions were crowned. Dragon's runs didn't last long either and that trend not only continued but has become a trademark of the LW title - It has changed hands 13 times, it has been vacated due to the reigning champion leaving the fed 3 times and it has been held by 11 different wrestlers with only The Soldier~ and Dutch Butcher managing to ever reclaim the belt. The longest anyone has held onto the title is a 14 week run by Dutch Butcher from June 5th to September 22nd 2010.
On the same night when the LW belt first changed hands the remaining two singles titles and the tag team one were first handed to their respective champions.
The DW Tag Team Championship was won by Muffinman and Drax. Drax went on to become the first wrestler in DW to have held any two belts in the fed when he won the LW title about two months later while Muffinman has cemented his legacy in DW as a tag team wrestler by winning the belts on two more occasions with different partners. In fact while numerous wrestlers have held the DW Tag gold more that once only one team has managed to win the titles twice. The longest title reign with the Tag Team gold was 13 weeks and belongs to that exact team of A.J Styles and Antonio Inoki. They held the belts from November 16th 2010 to January 25th 2011 and are again champions after reclaiming the titles four days later on the 29th.
The Cruiserweight Championship was decided in a match between Buffy and Carnage. Carnage came out on top in a convincing win but it only seemed to motivate his opponent who made a serious comeback the following season and won the title at DW's second PPV event NEW DEPTHS. Since then only three others have held the CW gold in DW and no one has ever won the champioship more than once. The current champion Ulysses hold the record for a DW title run with any title - he won the Cruiserweight title on August 14th 2010 and has been impressive in it's defense in those over 6 months since.
Finally the Big One, the DW Heavyweight Title was contested in the main event of the December 5th 2009 show. In a match that was highly anticipated Altilon crushed Blackwing in a manner not much different that the one in which he dealt with his other opponents in the tournament. The three matches it took Altilon to win the title earned him the nickname "The Monster of Darkness Wrestling" due to the one sided destruction of his opponents. A week later at DW's first ever PPV - PITCH BLACK - Blackwing managed to scratch away a win and the title. The gold would stay outside of it's first holder's reach for a full year before he reclaimed it joining the elite club of two time DW Heavyweight Champions. Ironically Altilon won back the title from the very man that first took it away from him - Blackwing - in a Fatal Four Way Hell In A Cell match where the other contestants were Spike an Bullet-tooth Tony. The DW Heavyweight title has been held by six different wrestlers, three of them boasting two reigns each. It is one of only two championships to have never been vacant(the other being the DW Tag Team titles). The longest run with the title belongs to Blackwing 22 weeks from June 26th to December 4th 2010. Blackwing also holds the record for the longest combined title runs - with his first reign of 13 weeks he gathers up 35 weeks as Heavyweight Champion.
At the start of DW's second season it became apparent that to youngest stars on the roster were not in a position to compete for the LW title. The wrestlers that had their eye on that belt were just too experienced and too strong for them. So in an effort to keep their interest peaked and keep them on the roster a new Championship was created - the DW New Blood Championship. Only available to wrestlers under a certain age and who have been with DW for less than 3 seasons it was the title that was intended to give it's holders that initial boost that would propel them ahead in future seasons. Instead it started to look more and more like a curse to win the NB gold as only three of the 9 holders of the belt made it anywhere after they lost the right to compete for it. That idea was dispelled when the second ever holder A.J Styles after leaving DW went on to create and run a promotion of his own before returning recently and winning the Tag Team titles twice with partner Antonio Inoki. His return coincided with the first time any former NB champion made a successful direct transition up the roster after first ever two time holder Kahlan moved out of the youth division and started the climb that would later allow her two win the LW championship. Two other wrestlers have also held the NB gold twice - Elemental Hero Tempest and Justin "RockStar" Pheonix. Tempest has started his own climb up the ladder while Pheonix is making use of the recent change in the rules regarding the title ( the period in which wrestles can compete for the belt was extended from 3 to 4 seasons after they arrive at DW)
and will be attempting to become the first ever three time winner. Much like the LW title the New Blood belt changes holders often but that is to be expected when you consider the limited time one can challenge for and hold the belt. The belt has been won 12 times four of which after being left vacant for one reason or another. The longest title run belongs to Kahlan - 13 weeks from June 26th to September 22nd 2010. Combined with her second run as champion of 2.5 weeks she sits at 14.5 weeks as NB champion.
During the first two seasons DW struggled to bring in big crowds to it's shows only managing 3631 attendance in it's peak Season 1 event the PITCH BLACK PPV. The first time Darkness Arena was eve filled was at the second PPV and the end of the second season at NEW DEPTHS DW for the first time had to turn fans away from the arena after filling all 6000 seats.
